Gatewood is known as an Urban Conservation District, while Plaza District is home to many businesses. The plaza walls are an infamous attraction, and the entire area gets decorated for the holidays. Patrons put a special effort into festivities for Halloween, Christmas, and more to bring the community together.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Empire Slice House is a beloved spot in town for pizza. There's even a walk-up window if you want to buy a slice while you're out and about shopping or exploring. New State Burgers & Spirits is favored for its hamburger creations. Get a black bean burger hamburger that uses Texas toast, or gravy fries. The Mule is a popular choice for sandwiches, beer, and cocktails, while Mexican Radio specializes in tacos and cold drinks.
For a fun vibe while you enjoy your cup of Joe, Neon Coffee Bar is a hip choice. Hot and cold drinks and an assortment of snacks are served. For bakery offerings, hit up Pie Junkie. Things to Do
The Plaza District Festival is a major draw of the area. It typically takes place in October and features retail specials, food, music, and art. At any time, visit the Plaza Walls. This centerpiece of the city was designed by street artists and muralists who wanted to showcase their talent.
Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is a performance center nearby. Plays and musicals are put on here often, while other contemporary shows also help fill out the schedule. For a laugh, visit OKC Improv. This comedy club often features local talent. There are typically two shows, one that's more or less family-friendly and another that's adult-only.
Several expansive churches also fill the area. Even if you don't attend, it's hard not to admit their beauty. Saint Francis of Assisi Church and Epworth United Methodist Church are two locations worth checking out. Explore the grounds and see the magnificence of the space. Special events are sometimes held at these locations as well if you wish to participate in community gatherings and sales.
